5 Ways Your Child May Be Asking for Connection Without Words
Connection doesn’t always begin with “Come play with me” or “I want you.” Your child may bring you a favorite object, sit quietly beside you, show you something they love, repeat a familiar interaction, or invite you into an activity without saying exactly what they want. These small moments can be easy to miss—especially when we’re expecting connection to look like conversation, eye contact, or a direct request. Try noticing how your child seeks you out. When they bring you something, join their play, move close to you, or repeat an interaction they enjoy, respond warmly without demanding more communication in return. Connection can look different from child to child. Recognizing your child’s own ways of reaching out can help you build more shared moments from the communication they already use.
