Turn One Big Direction Into Small, Clear Steps
A direction like “Get ready for school” may sound simple, but it actually contains several separate tasks. Your child has to remember what needs to happen, organize the steps, start the first task, and continue until everything is finished. Try breaking a large direction into two or three concrete steps. Use short language, show the steps visually when helpful, and give your child enough time to process and begin. If three steps are still too much, start with just one. The goal is not to make your child dependent on prompts. Clearer instructions can reduce the amount they have to hold in mind while they practice completing routines more independently.
