What Is My Autistic Child’s Behavior Trying to Tell Me?
Behavior can give important clues about what a child is feeling, needing, or struggling to communicate. Crying, refusing, leaving, hitting, covering ears, or shutting down can have very different causes depending on what happened before, the environment, the child’s sensory state, and what they were trying to accomplish or avoid. Instead of focusing only on stopping the behavior, look for patterns, consider the unmet need, respond calmly, and teach safer or clearer ways to communicate over time.
