When Your Child Hits After Not Getting What They Want
Disappointment is difficult for any child, but for some kids with autism, being denied something they really want can lead to intense frustration and hitting. Children need opportunities to learn that feeling upset is okay, even when the answer remains “no.” By practicing how to express disappointment, request alternatives, and tolerate limits, parents can help their child develop emotional regulation skills without giving in to hitting.
