Why Knowing What Happens Next Can Help Your Child
Uncertainty can make everyday activities harder. Before leaving home, starting a new activity, visiting somewhere unfamiliar, or changing routines, give your child a simple preview of what will happen. Answer the basics: Where are we going? Who will be there? What will happen? About how long will it take? What happens afterward? You don’t need a complicated schedule. A few pictures, a First–Then visual, a short list, or simple spoken language may be enough. Predictability cannot make every situation easy, but it can reduce uncertainty and give your child more information to prepare for what comes next.
