Not wanting to share does not automatically mean a child is selfish. A favorite toy may provide comfort, have strong sensory value, or feel difficult to give up when the child is unsure whether it will come back. Instead of forcing long sharing periods, begin with short, predictable turns. Use a timer, visual cue, or simple language such as “my turn, your turn,” and practice first with familiar people and lower-pressure situations. You can also offer choices about which toy to share or start with duplicate toys. The goal is to build trust and turn-taking skills gradually, not to force a child to surrender something important before they are ready.
